In recent years, social restrictions have distanced us from sensory experiences, and this has affected the way of seeing the world and absorbing new cultures. EXA Group Canada developed the program to promote sustainable tourism 10 Year Countdown, and the first project is the photo exhibition by artist Barbara Camargo. DOORS AROUND THE WORLD

BARBARA CAMARGO

In able to survive on earth since the beginning, humans have turned to shelter and have closed the space with a door. The entryway and exit to mankind’s home. Doors are extremely interesting to analyze and have a lot of character depending on the building’s historical, geographic, cultural background. There are a huge variety of shapes, sizes, and styles. However, all of them have the same purpose. In being able to understand the context it's important to do some research to truly interpret the beauty of each individual piece.

I am Barbara Camargo and one of my latest projects has been to go back to my portfolio and pick out my favorite door photos I have encountered all over the world.

What most strikes my attention is the fact that they have such strong symbolism behind them. The famous phrase “When a door closes, another one opens”. They represent opportunity, social transformations, and boundaries.

Doors are a strong reflection of the communities, values, social norms, and stories. Following I’ll be dissecting each image by explaining why I choose them and their background.

Canada has been my home for the past ten years. I graduated High School from Appleby College in Oakville and graduated from Ryerson University in Creative Industries, being part of the program's first class. Today, as a stay-at-home mom, I continue my courses on an online platform and have acquired a digital skillset to enter the design world, both graphic and interior. I have lived in 5 different countries in my lifetime and had the opportunity to visit over 40 countries. This accomplishment has allowed me to develop a passion for tourism and the arts. It allows me to learn with each of the destinations and become inspired to create artwork from my experiences. Now is the opportunity to turn the narrative around and tackle new obstacles with creativity to develop a sustainable tourism system.
